After a long and hard time in our world, your creativity may feel a little far away. Creativity disappears easily when your system goes into the four primary stress states of fight, flight, freeze or faint.
But did you know that expressing your creativity with others is actually one of the best ways to get out of stress and into contact with the strongest and healthiest part of your nervous system? When you sing, dance, or play music together with others (even online), you can activate the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is the body’s largest and perhaps most important nerve, and when it is activated in the right way, your blood pressure drops. You come out of stress and trauma. You feel comfortable and confident in yourself. And the more you hang out there, the more you can be creative and feel safe with others. So it is a self-reinforcing process that strengthens body and soul, to put it very simply.
But wait…shouldn’t we just exercise and meditate to unwind? Is that wrong now? No, exercise is super important, but the wrong kind can lead to more stress. Meditation and breathing are also great tools for self-healing, but can cause us to become so relaxed that we collapse, become tired, isolated, and depressed. They can also trigger trauma, which can be difficult to deal with without support.
I get these thoughts from the Polyvagal theory by Stephen Porges, and from the HeartMath people in California. They have been researching this stuff for decades.
My HEAL cards are designed to help you out of stress and into healthy, self-healing creativity, with yourself and with others. They are about to be printed and should be ready to buy in English in the Fall of 2021. Please let me know if you’d like to check out the cards as soon as they land.
In the meantime please check out the HEAL-keys online course here. Participants get a discount on the cards when they land:
Here’s what one participant said:
“I have found brand new possibilities by working intuitively and found “gold” inside myself. But the biggest thing has probably been finding faith in myself – faith in my worth – and that I trust that what I perceive is true for me. I have feelings of well-being and joy more often than I have had for a very long time. ”
Take good care and thank you so much for reading my emails.
Love,
Karin
