Can Art Help Heal Trauma? New Training Program
As 2020 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on what has been the most intense year of my life in many ways. It has brought pressure, stress, and loss—but also openings to new ways of being, connecting, and creating. More than ever, I believe there is a profound need for creative, holistic, and natural approaches to the crises we are facing.
We need more healers and therapists who can provide compassionate, creative support to people who have experienced trauma. Trauma can show up in countless ways—through stress, tension, depression, anxiety, or challenging relationships. You know what I mean.
There is so much new research about trauma, which I integrate into my practice every day, alongside art therapy, expressive arts, and other creative, sensory-based approaches. Throughout 2020, I have been developing a continuing education training program for therapists in art therapy and trauma-informed care. The program will launch in Danish in Spring 2021 and in English in Fall 2021.
Christy Anne beautifully captures the essence of creative trauma healing:
"Like a flower in the desert I had to grow in the cruelest weather, holding on to every drop of rain just to stay alive. But it’s not enough to survive, I want to bloom beneath the blazing sun, and show you all of the colors that live inside of me. I want you to see what I can become."
— Christy Anne Martine
